Art and history in the home of the Municipal Council

Valencia’s City Hall is the home of the Municipal Council and it’s located in front of the busy City Council Square, also surrounded by other major buildings such as the Central Post Station, the Rialto Cinema, and the Ateneo building.

Two artistic movements

A historical building

Built in the same place where the old convent of San Francisco used to be, it was declared a National Artistic-Historic Monument in 1962.

The building features two constructions corresponding to different artistic movements: Neoclassical for the Teaching House, built between 1758 and 1763, and Neo-Baroque for the main block, built between the second and third decades of the 20th century, which is the building’s façade.

Council Square

Valencia's center

The City Hall square

Even though the Queen’s Square is considered Valencia’s kilometer zero, the City Hall Square represents the center of Valencia.

During Fallas, many events are held, most notably mascletas, and it’s also where the municipal falla is located.
