The center of the Fallas' floral offering

Valencia’s Basílica de la Virgen (Our Lady of the Forsaken) is located in the Virgin Square and is part of the city’s Cathedral Complex, along with the Miguelete Tower, L’Almoina Archaeological Center and the Cathedral.

Basilica and cloister

The Virgin's Square

Many people get confused: which one is the Basilica? And the Cathedral? Truth is, they’re joined by an arch so they’re part of one big complex.

The easiest way to tell them apart is to remember that the Cathedral can be accessed from Queen’s Square, while the Basilica and its cloister are located in front of the Virgin’s Square.

A bit of History

The Roman forum

Excavations at L’Almoina indicate that the area where the Basilica is now located used to be Valencia’s Roman forum. Several blocks of the façade are gravestones and inscriptions from Roman times.
